PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma. It is a treatment that uses a concentrated component of your own blood, containing platelets and growth factors, which is prepared for application to the scalp.
Platelets play an important role in the body’s natural healing processes. In hair restoration, PRP is used to support the scalp environment and may help stimulate hair follicles that are still capable of producing hair.
How Does PRP Hair Restoration Work?
PRP hair treatment involves collecting a small amount of blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets and applying the prepared plasma to selected areas of the scalp.
The treatment generally involves the following steps:
1. Initial Hair Loss Assessment
We begin by discussing your hair loss history, current concerns and treatment goals. Your clinician will assess your scalp and consider possible causes of hair thinning before recommending an appropriate treatment plan.
2. Blood Collection
A small sample of blood is taken from your arm, similar to a routine blood test.
3. Preparation of Platelet-Rich Plasma
The blood sample is processed in a centrifuge to separate its components and obtain the platelet-rich plasma.
4. Application to the Scalp
The prepared PRP is carefully administered to the areas being treated using an appropriate injection technique.
5. Personalised Follow-Up
Your progress and response to treatment can be reviewed over time. Depending on your hair loss pattern and clinical assessment, additional sessions or other hair restoration treatments may be discussed.

1. How long does treatment take?
Treatments usually can take upto 60 mins.

2. What are the contraindications?
Pregnancy or breast feeding
Anti-coagulation therapy

Acute or chronic infections
3. Are there any side effects?
There may be some bruising, swelling, soreness and redness immediately after the treatment which should subside in a few days.
4. Do I need to do anything before or after treatment?
We advise clients to avoid taking Vit E, Aspirin and other NSAIDS (Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs) for a couple of weeks following treatment. Also using a SPF factor of at least 30 is advised.
5. How many sessions would I need?
The number of sessions would be advised after consultation, but for skin rejuvenation mostly 3-5 sessions 4-6 weeks apart are needed. We recommend a top up once a year. For hair restoration, 4 weekly sessions are recommended.
6. What is the downtime following treatment?
There is some redness, minor discomfort and swelling in the treated area which lasts few hours. Bruising is less common and can easily be covered with make-up. Most clients are able to return to normal activities the following day.
